Training Program on Transport Planning & Regulation

27th to 30th August

 

The Department of Transport & Logistics Management along with Prof. S.L Dhingra (IIT Bombay) and Mr. Brendan Finn (Public Transport consultant, Ireland ) have conducted a four day training program on Transport Planning & Regulation from 27th to 30th August 2010 at National Transport Commission auditorium.

The objectives of this program were to create awareness and share importance of theory and practice of transport planning & regulation among participants from various industry stakeholders including the ministry of transport.

4th International Conference: South Asia Regional Conference on Transport and Logistics (SAARCTALS)

26th August 2010

 

The Department of Transport & Logistics Management and the Transportation Engineering Division of the Department of Civil Engineering jointly hosted the 4th International Conference on 26th August at the Mount Lavinia Hotel.

The theme of the conference was “Transport Planning and Regulation”. It was aimed to provide a forum for academics, researchers and practitioners to exchange ideas and review recent developments in the area of Transport Planning and Regulations. High calibre academics as well as leading professional practitioners from around the world have shared their research findings at this conference.

CILT Sri Lanka elects new Chairman

23rd July 2010

 

Prof. Amal Kumarage was appointed as the Chairman of the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) at the 26th Annual General Meeting held at the Ceylon Chamber of Commerce Auditorium in Colombo.

The Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport is the leading professional body associated with logistics and transport. It offers significant benefits to all its members, as well as a complete suite of educational courses internationally. The principal objective of the Institute is “To promote and encourage the art and science of logistics and transport”. The Institute is represented worldwide with National Councils, National Independent Sections and Institute Branches.

CIMA Global Business Challenge 2010

12th June 2010

 

Team “Envision” from Department of Transport and Logistics Management, University of Moratuwa participated at the “CIMA Global Business Challenge 2010” organized by the CIMA Sri Lanka Division and ended up as runners up in the inter university local final competition held on 12th June 2010. Fifteen [15] teams from eight Sri Lankan universities entered the local segment of the “CIMA Global Business Challenge 2010” and the team “Envision” was selected for the best four local teams and got the opportunity to take part in the Local Finals .

Undergraduate Mentoring Programme 2009/2010

21st June 2010

 

John Keells Holdings [JKH] Social Responsibility Foundation sponsored Undergraduate Mentoring Program of the Department of Transport and Logistics Management was held at the Cinnamon Grand Hotel on 21st June 2010. Twenty five (25) Scholarships were awarded on the occasion to undergraduates by the JKH Social Responsibility Foundation based on academic performance and financial need. This event marked the opening ceremony of the mentoring program for the 09 batch, several other collaborations between the department and the Industry as well as the closing ceremony of the 08 batch who received certificates for successful completion of the Business English Course offered by JKH in association with Gateway English Language Centre.

AVI-SOIR “EVENING WITH AVIATION LEADERS”

27th April 2010

 

The Department of Transport & Logistics Management in association with the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport (CILT) held the Avi – Soir 2nd Session (Evening with Aviation Leaders) on 27th April 2010 at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel, Colombo.

The main objective of the session was to create high level interactions between professionals representing aviation authorities, airlines, travel trade, airport and aviation agencies and academic institutions.

The session consisted of a presentation by Dr. Chandika Wickramatillake( Project Manager, London Heathrow T5 and UPS Worldport Project) on “Potential for developing parcel and freight hubs in Sri Lanka” followed by the presentation on “Emerging trends in aviation & opportunities they provide to develop post” done by Capt. Chira Fernando.( Head of Training ST Aerospace Training Academy, Singapore)

Outdoor Life Skills Training for 09 batch

8th ,9th and 10th March 2010

 

‘09 batch students and staff members of the Department went on Outward Bound Training to Belihuloya conducted by Wild Drift Management Centre - specialists for management training in wilderness. This was organized as a requirement of their level 1 Term - course module, Outdoor Life Skills Training. The primary objectives of this program are to enhance leadership skills, increase team effectiveness, improve communication skills, develop self awareness and develop trust among students.
